M104 R4–7 Four-Sector Production ESAS and v22 Fit Summary

Production extraction qualification

The final extraction used the specified esas_playground_v1.4.1.py pipeline with a project-local, explicitly resolved mos-spectra wrapper. Each qualified combination contains a region-specific source PHA, real mos_back QPB PHA, ARF, and RMF.

Physical-label correction (2026-07-10): the historical Angle* basenames record DS9 pie angles, which are measured from the image x-axis. They are not celestial position angles. On this WCS, sky PA = (DS9 angle - 90 deg) mod 360. The spectra and extraction geometry are unchanged; only the physical disk/wind labels below were corrected and verified against the WCS centroids of the actual ESAS source images.

Sector Instrument Source counts QPB counts CCDs Qualification
Disk W (DS9 −45–45°; sky PA 225–315°) MOS1 CCD1 only Unavailable: no outer corner anchor
MOS2 8,837 3,547.49 1, 6 Qualified
Wind N (DS9 45–135°; sky PA 315–45°) MOS1 CCD1 only Unavailable: no outer corner anchor
MOS2 6,277 3,383.36 1, 4, 5 Qualified
Disk E (DS9 135–225°; sky PA 45–135°) MOS1 5,285 2,605.90 1, 2 Qualified
MOS2 6,385 3,473.78 1, 3, 4 Qualified
Wind S (DS9 225–315°; sky PA 135–225°) MOS1 8,205 3,303.69 1, 7 Qualified
MOS2 8,042 3,405.32 1, 3 Qualified

Final qualification: 6/8 instrument-sector combinations, with 6 real mos_back products. The unavailable combinations are MOS1 Disk W and MOS1 Wind N; each contains only CCD1 within the exact sector footprint and has no outer exposed-corner anchor.

v22 fitting configuration

  • FAST_MODE=1
  • SP_SHAPE_MODE=r0_15_full_frozen
  • CXB_NORM_FREE=1
  • CXB photon index fixed at 1.46
  • MOS_INSTLINE3_ZERO=1
  • MOS_IGNORE_BAND=1.15-1.45 keV
  • Source fitting interval: 0.4–3.2 keV, excluding the MOS ignored band
  • Statistic: chi2gehrels

Best-fit results

Sector Source spectra kT (keV) Reduced statistic q-value Free CXB norm
Disk W 1 (MOS2) 0.706 0.65 0.946 0.002582
Wind N 1 (MOS2) 0.780 1.35 0.168 0.002480
Disk E 2 (MOS1+MOS2) 0.677 1.60 0.017 0.002576
Wind S 2 (MOS1+MOS2) 0.760 0.90 0.695 0.003603

The arithmetic mean of the two disk best fits is 0.692 keV, compared with 0.770 keV for the two wind best fits: a +0.079 keV (+11.36%) wind-minus-disk offset. This is descriptive only because FAST mode did not compute confidence intervals.

Disk E fails the nominal q-value quality threshold. Its spectrum atlas shows instrument-dependent low-energy residual structure: MOS1 is preferentially positive while MOS2 is preferentially negative below about 1.1 keV. The Disk E temperature must therefore be treated as provisional rather than as evidence for a secure wind/disk contrast.
